Watch Maggie Gyllenhaal Play ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ on Lap Steel on ‘Fallon’

Maggie Gyllenhaal showed off her musical expertise in a segment on The Tonight Present. The clip, dubbed “Random Instrument Obstacle,” observed the actress and director making an attempt to carry out “Sweet Property Alabama” on a lap steel guitar.

The recurring section highlighted Gyllenhaal and host Jimmy Fallon taking part in randomly generated tunes on random instruments even though the Roots tried to guess the tune. Fallon kicked points off with Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Attractive?” as performed on a practice whistle, whilst Gyllenhaal performed Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” on a washtub. Gyllenhaal’s rendition of “Sweet Household Alabama” was, sad to say, not effective.

The actress also sat down with Fallon to discuss her modern directorial debut The Lost Daughter, out now on Netflix. An adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s novel of the similar title, The Shed Daughter stars Olivia Colman as Leda, an impulsive and haunted loner who fixates on a young mom and daughter while on a seaside getaway. Dakota Johnson and Jessie Buckley also star.

The Dropped Daughter has been praised for its truthful depiction of motherhood, which the director said she appreciates.

“We’re made use of to seeing possibly a fantasy version of the mother that we all would like we experienced or the mom that we would like we have been, or, like, a undesirable mommy,” Gyllenhaal instructed Fallon. “And the factor that that does is it can make you go, ‘Oh, glimpse at that insane poor mommy.’ I’m nothing like that, thank God. I’m this kind of a good momma. But to be part of them jointly, which is what this movie does, in which it is complex.”
